In a Career which spans over a decade and includes ten collaborative and solo albums, Iranian born and Indian raised singer/composer Azam Ali has confirmed her place as being one of the most prolific, versatile, and gifted performers on the world music stage today. An international touring artist, her unique voice and genre-defying compositions have won her legions of fans worldwide as well as the respect of critics and her piers. Currently based in Montreal, Canada, Azam Ali is considered to be one of the best singers and composers in world music today.
Azam’s immense talent and ability to adapt her voice to any musical style have drawn the attention of many diverse artists. Azam has collaborated in studio and on stage with Serj Tankian of System of a Down, The Crystal Method, Pat Mastellato and Trey Gunn of King Crimson, Dredg, Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails, Ben Watkins of Juno Reactor, Buckethead, Steve Stevens, Rhys Fulber of Delerium, Mercan Dede, the world renowned Japanese group Kodo, Zakir Hussain, Omar Faruk Tekbilek, and Mickey Hart with whom she also toured for two years as a lead singer in his group Bembe Orisha.
Word of Azam Ali’s talent quickly spread through Hollywood as well. Azam has worked with many world renowned film composers such as Harry Gregson- Williams, Mychael Danna, Graeme Revell, Ramin Djawadi, Brian Tyler, Michael Giachinno, Christopher Young, Tyler Bates, Jeff Rona etc. Azam’s distinctive voice can also be heard on myriad film and television scores among which include "Matrix- Revolutions", “300”, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, "Godsend", "Papparazi", "The Nativity Story", "Speed Racer", “Lara Croft-:Tomb raider”, “The Fight Club”, “Season of the witch”, "Children of Dune", "Earthsea", "Dawn of the Dead", “True Blood”, "Alias", "The Agency, and "Prison Break".
Azam has also made major vocal and musical contributions to several big video games which include “Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow”, for which she won “best original song” at the Hollywood Music Awards in 2007, “Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands” , and the upcoming major game “Uncharted 3”.
Iranian born Loga Ramin Torkian has won much recognition in his native Iran as well as in the west as the composer and multi-instrumentalists for the World Music group Axiom of Choice whose music is deeply rooted in the traditional music of Iran. Currently based in America Loga is now recognized worldwide for his work with Niyaz, the ground breaking World Music ensemble he co-founded in 2005. Although Torkian is a highly accomplished on many instruments such as the Guitar, Lafta, Djura etc., his main instruments are the Turkish Saz which is from the family of lutes, the Kamman, a bowed instrument specifically designed for Loga, and the electric Guitar Viol, a bowed guitar inspired by a 14th century instrument. Loga is one of the few musicians who performs the Guitar Viol live. With its haunting sound that mesmerizes audiences, what makes Loga’s style so singular is the fact that he applies Persian traditional bowing techniques and melodies to his playing. A highly gifted and talented composer, Loga is greatly respected for his ability to adapt the Persian classical repertoire, known as Radif, into his own unique and modern compositions. His profound artistry has been featured in several major motion picture soundtracks, which include “Iron Man” and “Body of Lies”.
Electronic musician & two-time GRAMMY Nominee Producer-Remixer & Recording Artist Carmen Rizzo has had a very eclectic career. From writing, engineering & programming on Seal’s classic Seal 2 album to producing, & writing Paul Oakenfold’s Bunka album, remixing BT, Tiesto, collaborating with Tuvan Throat singers Huun Huur Tu, to co founding the ground breaking World Music act Niyaz. Carmen is also a frequent fixture on album credits working with artist such as Coldplay, Alanis Morissette, KD Lang, Ryuichi Sakamoto to Pete Townshend to mention a few.
As a recording artist, Carmen past 3 Electronic themed albums features various guest singers Jem, Esthero, Kate Havenvik, Grant Lee Phillips, Shana Halligan (Bittersweet) to Lady Bug Mecca (Digable Planets) The first album “Lost Art Of An Idle Moment” (2005 The Lab/Universal) was USA Today’s #1 pick for The Life Section fall music guide, as well as debuting No. 2 on tastemaker KCRW’s Album Chart and peaking at No. 2 on XM’s Café Chart. “Ornament Of An Impostor” (Electrofone-2008) went to #42 of the top most played albums of 2008 on KCRW. The current album “Looking Through Leaves” (Electrofone 2010) debuted #3 CMJ RPM chart most added to radio when it came out and was NPR show Echoes CD of the month July 2010.
As a composer Carmen has scored two films from acclaimed British Oscar winning director Michael Apted for the film “Power of the Game” and a short film “Party Guest”, as well as writing the closing theme for the award wining Sony Play Station 3 Un Charted 2 video game. His monthly radio show Mo Glo airs the first Friday of every month on WNYE 91.5 FM in New York and is presented by the influential radio station KEXP. Carmen’s music has been licensed countless times finding placements on CSI Miami, The OC , the HBO hit series True Blood, to the worldwide hit Buddha Bar compilations.
